Iga Motylska is a Johannesburg-based freelance journalist, sub-editor, photojournalist and blogger, with a Master’s in Journalism from the University of the Witwatersrand. I am a detail-oriented and exceptionally passionate individual, who is always willing to take on a new challenge – no matter where in the world it is.
My editorial interests range from documenting the entrepreneurial spirit through interviews with businesspeople to women’s issues and human rights issues, environmental affairs, and travel writing. As a ‘Jane of many trades’ I have worked full-time (and more recently freelance) as a journalist, copywriter, sub-editor and photographer (sometimes all at once) for various publications, advertising agencies and Destination Marketing Organisations.

COPYWRITING AND ADVERTORIAL
I have done online and print copywriting for various brands including: VW, Dove, Cadbury, Clover, Mr Price, The Hub, Homewood, Freshpak, Five Roses. I also do write speeches for executives and book/magazine forewords on behalf of executives.
I have an Advanced Sub-editing Certificate from the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) and was the chief sub-editor of the three Forbes Africa publications. I am also available for private sub-editing training.
I use a Nikon D700 (full-frame) and D90, and the majority of my published articles are accompanied by my photographs – just have a look at my portfolio of published work.
In 2014, I was one of 22 chosen South African photographers to participate in the ’20 Years of Democracy’ photography exhibition at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. The exhibition was such a great success that the run was extended for an additional month. The same exhibition will be showcased at the Month of Photography (MoP) exhibition, that is curated by the South African Centre for Photography, in September and October 2014.
In 2013, my photographs were part of the international ‘We are the World’ tour at Kallang Theatre in Singapore.
DIGITAL CONTENT STRATEGY AND SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
Digital Content Strategy is the planning, development and management of social media content on behalf of your brand or product based on their niche market, target market, online following and user engagement. This is done through the analysis of Google Analytics and the brand’s or product’s current online strategy on various social media channels such as Google+, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Stumble Upon.
I also have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of the Witwatersrand. I have tutored and lectured at the WITS University English and Engineering departments and was an ESL teacher in Seoul for two years. I am also available for sub-editing and digital content strategy training.
